New Library Books

Throughout the year, Holman Library receives new books. After books have been catalogued and processed, they are placed on the New Books Shelf. You will find this on the second floor, at the top of the stairs. Take a moment to see what is new, but be sure to bring your library card as you are bound to find something that interests you!

Come and Check Out Holman Library's Music CDs!

Are you one of the many people who have tried out Holman Library’s new music CD collection? If not, why not join the many who borrowed from our diverse collection. The collection was made public on October 10th , 2006 and we’ve had 403 circulation transactions since that time. The check out period is 1 week with a 1-week renewal. Five items can be checked out at one time. The collection is located in the library lobby.

As with all our collections, our focus is primarily on purchasing items that are tied to the curriculum. However, it includes a wide range of music genres, and we continue to add to the collection. Examples of music genres we currently have include:
o Blues
o Classical
o Country
o Gospel
o Jazz
o Musicals
o Pop
o Rhythm and Blues
o US Historical
o “Spoken” (Holocaust, poetry, etc.)

Rosetta Stone: Language Learning Software

Holman Library recently added Rosetta Stone to our ever-growing collection of materials to help students succeed at Green River. Rosetta Stone is language-learning software and it is available to students and faculty in both the Holman Library and the Technology Center. Government agencies, major corporations, and colleges and universities worldwide use Rosetta Stone for language learning.

The languages available to GRCC users through Rosetta Stone include:
• English (3 levels and 10 simultaneous users)
• Spanish (2 levels and 5 simultaneous users)
• Chinese (2 levels and 2 simultaneous users)
• French (2 levels and 2 simultaneous users)
• German (2 levels and 2 simultaneous users)
• Japanese (2 levels and 2 simultaneous users)

To access Rosetta Stone in the Library or Technology Center students and faculty can log on to most computers (some exceptions in the Library) and access the program from the Start Menu. You will want to use head phones or, better, a combination microphone/headphones. You can check out head phones at the Library’s Reference Desk (requires GRCC ID card) or you can bring your own head phones or combination microphone/head phones.

Library Building Survives Storm

The big wind storm of December 14th uprooted two large trees between Holman Library and the RLC building. Although the trees crushed a bike rack, knocked down a smaller tree, and damaged signage, they only only left a scrape down the front of the building. Fortunately no one was hurt, and even the bike in the rack was salvaged! Power was out until late the next day.

Welcome Back!

As Winter Quarter begins, here are a few reminders to get your quarter off to a good start:

• New passwords are required each quarter to use the computers in the library
• Identification cards are needed to check out library materials and they can be made at the library or the bookstore
• The library has lots of material (books, journals, databases, etc.) that will come in useful during your education. Ask a librarian for help at the Reference Desk upstairs!
• The library is back to its usual hours for Winter Quarter: Monday-Thursday 7AM-9PM, Friday 7AM-4PM, Saturday closed, and Sunday 1PM-7PM.
